
Joachim Luis - Biography
Joachim Luis is excited to be a part of Windy City Opera’s debut production. He was seen most recently in November 2014 covering Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte with Floating Opera Company, and will be playing Don Basilio/Don Curzio in April 2015 with the New Moon Opera Company’s Le nozze di Figaro. Since October 2013 he has been appearing as Chang Junrui in the Midwest Premier of Romance of the Western Chamber. In May 2012 he played Don Filipo in the US premier of the Filipino opera Noli me tangere in Chicago. Past roles include: Prince Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Don Basilio/Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro), Jack (Into the Woods), Monostatos (The Magic Flute), The Leader (The Tsar Gets His Photograph Taken), Apollo (The Fairy Queen, Big Deal (West Side Story), Pluto/Aristaeus (Orpheus in the Underworld) and Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea).
Joachim has also been a soloist with the chamber choir Bella Voce, Vox3 Collective, as well as with the Chicago Bach Ensemble, with whom he sang 4 of their first five concerts. He is also a Co-Managing Divo of the Chicago chapter of Opera on Tap, a non-profit organization whose goal is to take opera from its traditional setting on the stage and bring it to the people by performing in bars, cafes and restaurants. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, he received his B.M. in Music Education from San Francisco State University in 2007 and his M.M. in Classical Voice from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in 2009.
